DJ 7-8-93

If ever so much joy has swelled a heart
as the sight of you sleeping,
then that joy is not one know by me.
For no greater inner rapture
of luck, bliss, and contentment
has been realized by this imperfect body,
whose soul your steady breath does reward.
As the morning's light kisses the downy curves
of your buttocks and back,
I splendor in the knowledge that you - this quiet portrait;
my sequestered masterpiece,
should be at my eyes disposal for all time.
I give thanks for each lock of your hair,
for each half open glimpse of one eye every morning,
above the rampart of pillow
that lives not long between us,
as we greet each other's bodies in the ceremony
of yet another day spent together.

DJ 2-24-97

I saw God
in our union.
I opened my eyes
to the ceiling's unfurled clouds
revealed heaven
and Saint Peter beckoning us in.
As I grasped your face
closer
plunging your tongue
deeper
I saw heaven
within our nectar.
Mingled in passion
steaming
a mist unfurled and enfolding
us as the clouds of heaven
parted
revealing God
staring back at me
with your eyes.
You are my God
only older
with longer hair
a fuller beard.
He's in our spit
our sweat
your sighs
as I tongue the fur of your belly.
God is the screams
I release
as you unleash
us from our separateness.
He is our hands
fingers folded within one another's
the dog whining to be let outside
the dishes in the sink
the bills piled on the desk.
And God is you holding me
kissing the back of my neck
while I tremble back to conciousness
and you whisper ...
"I love you so much baby."
